Food Curses

Sometimes I feel like I'm cursed when I try to get something to eat.

When I used to go to the Popeye's Chicken by my parents' house, they were out of chicken breasts. The Pizza Hut up the street has been out of personal pans, which I completely don't understand. They have the pans and they have the dough - how can they be out? I've even been to Taco Cabana when they've been out of tacos!

Today I was trying to find something for lunch where I could use my credit card and have some leftovers to bring my buddy Dan. After much thinking, I decided upon pasta fagioli soup and toasted raviolis from The Olive Garden.

I've really worked myself up for this lunch so I drive the two minutes over to the restaurant and get seated. The waitress comes over to take my drink order and I tell her I'm ready to order everything. I say toasted raviolis and she goes, "Oh, we're out of those."

I always want to scream at the person, "How can you be out of such and such?" but I just picked up my stuff and had an unsatisfying lunch at James Coney Island. I hate wanting something and then not being able to get it. Nothing else tastes good after that.

I know this isn't anything serious to bitch about, but it seems to always happen to me. Grrrrr.

Back when we had Boston Market around here, they had a habit of being out of main courses three hours before they closed, and I never ever understood why they didn't a) make more turkey/chicken or b) just freakin close early!

I've been to an IHOP and they were out of pancakes. I kid you not.

We went to a take and bake pizza place two hours before closing. They told us they were out of pizzas. We laughed a lot when they went out of business two months later.

toasted raviolis? I've never had those before but that sounds tasty.

"I’ve even been to Taco Cabana when they’ve" ... when they've what? The suspense is killing me!

I think it's something about Mondays. I was at Burger King last night and they were out of like half their drinks. They said they were getting a "truck" today.

The only way it is acceptable for a restaurant to be out of something if if is a *special*, as opposed to a regular menu item. And even then, when we ordered a *special* at most places we go to, and they are out of it, they usually compensate by offering us a free drink or appetizer.

I worked for several years as a restaurant cook, so I know. When I worked at Crapplebee's, they were forever running out of soup. It was their own damned fault for not ordering enough cases of the frozen soup of the day!

However, when I worked at non-chain places, they almost NEVER ran out of regular menu items. Specials, yes, but that is different, and we always erased them from the board once we ran out!
