FontLister
Kristine had suggested FontLister when I was looking for a font preview program a couple of weeks ago. I installed it on the dinosaur of a machine I have at work and it promptly killed it when I tried to get it to preview 600 fonts. I finally got around to installing it at home and all I can say is, "Wow! This program rocks!" Not only can you view fonts that you have installed, but you can also browse folders where you have other fonts stored to see what they look like in preview mode. That saves you from having to have all 1000+ fonts that you have installed at all times. It's $5 shareware, so I'm sure I'll be coughing that $5 up soon. If you're looking for something to help you manage your fonts, give it a go. I'm sure you'll like it.

Pretty cool! And $5 isn't a bad price at all!

It's a Group Thing: Part I
A few years ago I bought a great book - An Exaltation of Larks : The Ultimate Edition by James Lipton. It's basically a big list of over a thousand terms for groups of things. Now, we all know a bunch of lions is a pride and some of us may even know a murder of crows, but would you know a goring of butchers? What I would like to do is put up a term, maybe a couple of times a week, maybe just once a week. I found the book just fascinating and wanted to share it with you. Without further adieu, here is today's term:
An Ostentation of Peacocks
Very fitting, wouldn't you say?

Google - Holiday Style!
Here's a great article on Dennis Hwang, Google's "art department," and how he decorates the Google logo for holidays. I remember the first time I noticed the decorated Google logo: it was Bastille Day about two years ago and ever since I love checking Google out and being surprised by a new logo. Here is a list of several of their decorated logos.

Usability - We Don't Need No Stinking Usability!
‹rant›I have a Tyfolio on Ty.com that allows me to keep a database of what Beanie Babies I have (I've got over 260. I'm sick; what can I say?). When I registered almost a year ago, somehow I must not have clicked on the "I'm over 18" link that was included in the registration e-mail so my registration has never been completed. I wanted to send someone a link to my Tyfolio, but since I'm not fully registered, I can't. I e-mailed Ty to let them know that I'm having problems with this and can't find a place on their site to update my registration info. I get an e-mail back saying it's in the e-mail they originally sent, go click there. I e-mail them back explaining that I no longer have a copy of the e-mail, could they please send me another. They e-mail me back to say that the e-mails are automatically generated and they can't do that. I can re-register, though, if I like. I politely explain to them that re-registering would mean entering my extensive collection again, and they basically say, "Tough shit." How annoying that they didn't plan this out better from a usability stand-point. I work at a web development company, so this is something that someone should have noticed. It just bugs me that I can't just have my registration changed. Grrrr!‹/rant›

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Ashley's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Train or boat?
This is kind of a tough one. I rode in tons of trains when I stayed in England with my aunt and uncle for six weeks and completely loved their train system. On the other hand, I love water. I guess I would have to say boat, if I had to pick.
- Lake or ocean?
Definitely the ocean. I love the beach and I love watching the surf.
- Thoughtful or perceptive?
Probably a little of both, but I would have to pick perceptive. In school I was always the person who knew how people felt about things and people without ever having to be told.
- Observant or participative?
It depends on the situation. If it's something I enjoy or want to try out, definitely participative. If it's something I'm ambivalent about, I'd rather watch others and see what they do. I like to people watch.
- Line or curve?
Curve. They look so much nicer.
- Capitalize or lowercase?
Incorrect grammar drives me absolutely crazy, so I only capitalize words that are supposed to be capitalized. I even use correct capitalization in my IMs. I know. I'm a dork.
- Giraffe or zebra?
Giraffes are so funny looking, especially when they run, so giraffes.
- Shiny or matte?
Depends, but probably matte.
- Oil or vinegar?
Oil. Especially with bread. :-)
- Sand or clay?
Definitely sand. I love to play in the sand. When I was a senior in high school I was an art aide (read "slave to the art teachers") and I used to love to go hide in the supply closet and play in the bucket of sand they have. I love just touching it.

Is this one yours or does it come from somewhere else? Some of these questions are a little... well... vague, right?
