Chicken Dance!
I've got my 9,000 mp3s on shuffle, so you never know what song you're going to hear next. The Chicken Dance just came on and now I'm sitting in my chair dancing along.

You know, the Chicken Dance was a big issue at my wedding. The wedding was in New York but several of the guests were from Wisconsin. My wife (a New Yorker) didn't believe that there was such a thing as the Chicken Dance or that it was ever played at weddings. She won out over the eager guests, but I'm going to show her this post to prove to her I (and my friends) are not crazy!

Going, Going, Gone
I decided to take advantage of eBay's free listing day and put up a ton of Beanie Babies for sale that I had multiples of. You can view them here, so if you're a collector, feel free to see if they are any you need.
They're all retired Internet exclusives, so you may be able to find one or two that you missed.

Lady Luck
For some reason, there is a ladybug in my room. I figured - it being December and all - that they'd all be dead by now, but nope, there's one running around the top of my lamp. Since ladybugs are supposed to be lucky, I'll take it as a sign that my luck is going to change for the new year.

That's a great sign!
I just wish it was only ladybugs that were still alive and kicking around here in Georgia. Stupid hateful yellow jackets are all I see around here. It's December, shouldn't they all be dead and gone? Oh well, I'm hoping for a ladybug too!
Happy Holidays!

Paint it Red
I'm out of here shortly for a night on the town. I just weighed myself and I am down to 142 pounds (no wonder my pants are basically falling off of me!). That's like a thirty pound loss that I've had since November. Damn, I look good!
You kiddies be good now!

Congrats on the weight loss. Nothing else boosts your self esteem like that does. I am just focusing on maintaining my current weight until after the holidays (I haven't gained one pound and I am thrilled about that).
I will get back on the weight loss track after the New Year.

Diet Lemonade
So, to start off my no Coke challenge, I stopped at Chick-fil-A this morning and got a diet lemonade to drink. Man, this stuff is good!
It's got more calories than a diet Coke, but it's still a lot less than I normally have. Instead of having the 256 calories from a large Coke, I'm only having 50 calories from the same size diet lemonade.
Got to start somewhere, right? I wonder if they sell this stuff by the gallon like they do their regular lemonade.

I stopped drinking soda over the summer. At first I switched from soda to lemonade. Then I tried to drink a lot more water and only order a lemonade occasionally. Now I mainly always drink water. I'm to the point where when I do actually drink a soda, I only have a few sips. Good luck!
Posted by Nicole at November 25, 2003 10:20 AM
hehe, make sure you have a bathroom close ... frequent pee trips are a side effect of lemonade.
Posted by tj at November 25, 2003 10:32 AM
I should probably try to drink more lemonade and less soda. I've been addicted to coca-cola also and have tried to cut back.

I'm staying away from milky coffees... I've turned mostly towards teas, a bit of unmilked coffee here and there... and a random exciting special 'oh yeah' latte. but for the most part, losts of much more healthy tea drinking!

i love dr. pepper! however, i try to stick to the diet version. although i mostly drink crystal lite and i only usue 1/2 of the tub because it is too sweet if i use the whole thing.

Posted by Hunter at November 25, 2003 10:49 PM
Isn't that stuff good? My only reason to go to Chick-Fil-A. They do sell it by the gallon too - but it's pricey. A cheaper alternative is the Sugar-Free Kool-aid lemonade. Yummmm...
Posted by Christine at November 26, 2003 03:02 PM
Their lemonade is SO addictive!
Posted by Adelle at December 1, 2003 06:45 PM
Another drink idea: Go to your grocery store, freezer section. Find the juice concentrates. If you like iced tea, find the Nestea iced tea (they come in peach, raspberry, and lemon). Peach is my favorite, mmm. I could drink that like there is no tomorrow.
It's more work to make up a concentrate than to buy just a regular drink, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper and I think it tastes better than the bottle stuff, too. And I think it definitely beats that nasty powdered stuff.

I love Vistaprint! I've got two different cards done by them, one for my webdesign site, and one for my SCA stuff. They're convienent and cheap. Maybe it's just that I'm a slacker and hate actually going to the RL printshops to get things done, and I'm too lazy to do them myself at home.

Happy Halloween!
Steven and I are having friends over tonight and while we're not dressing up or anything, I am doing some Halloween-themed BookCrossing releases. I'm letting loose ten horror novels (King, Koontz, Straub, Rice, and Harris) in my area, so if you're in northwest Houston, keep your eyes open for some free books. They'll be at Best Buy (near Willowbrook in the DVD section), at Willowbrook in a few places, the local Randall's, and more. Hope someone finds them and enjoys them.
Happy Halloween, everyone! Don't eat too much candy!

Back to the Land of the Living
Slowly but surely, I've managed to become a bit more human this week. I've made it out of the house (with make-up and decent clothes on - a first in weeks!) to run a few errands, get bloodwork done, and I even made it into work for an hour or two today to see where all the projects stand. I'm going to work from home the next couple of days and start back partial days next week. Everyone at work was so understanding of my situation and I could tell that they were genuinely glad to see me doing well. Makes a girl feel good, you know?
Really, except for feeling really tired when I'm out even just for a few hours and getting short of breath if I have to walk too far, I feel pretty good. Like I told Steven today, today was a good day because I didn't die from a blood clot or suffer permanent damage. When I really think of what might have happened, it gives me pause and makes me realize how lucky I was.
I still haven't posted about my hospital stay, but I'm not sure there's much to say about it. I hated being there, disliked my doctor (guy was a major jackass with no bedside manner at all), and my poor arms look like I have a serious drug habit from all the IVs and blood that was taken while I was in there. The bruises are now a lovely yellow color and I wonder if people think junkie when they glance at my arms.
Also, while I was at work, I picked up a few packages that had arrived for me. Kim and Scott sent me Michelle Branch's The Spirit Room and Erin sent me Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married by Marian Keyes. Nothing like getting gifts to help your recovery, right?
Speaking of gifts, as soon as Christine gets me a list of all the people that participated in the Pamper Kymberlie in the Hospital Project (that's how I refer to it), I'll be sending thank yous your way as well. I cannot stress enough how wonderful it felt knowing so many people were pulling for me, thinking about me, and wishing me well. You never know how many people love you until something like this happens.
Speaking of people that love you, I just want to thank my mom for staying with me every day and every night while I was in the hospital. She only left for a few hours at a time to shower and get us food when the meals inside were way too nasty to eat. She slept every night in my room and was always there if I work up scared or if the 3:30 blood letting became too much to bear. I wish everyone had a mother like her in there life. I love you, Mom. Thank you so much for being there, even if I did get snippy and bitchy by the end of my stay.
Anyway, hopefully once I get a bit more rested and caught up on all the shit that's piled up while I was gone, blogging will be a bit more frequent here. At least now you know I haven't relapsed.

Burning Supplies
Today was the day to pick up cheap supplies for burning CDs. Office Depot is running a sale on Imation CDs - 50 80 minute, 48x speed CDs (regularly $25.00 or so) for $11.87, buy one get one free. That's 100 CDs for about $13 after tax. Office Max has 50 slimline CD cases (regularly $9.99 a piece) on sale for $4.00 which then comes with a $4.00 mail-in rebate making them free.
If you're running low on CD supplies, now would be the time to stock up!

hey, i'm not sure if you've ever mentioned this or not, but i didn't know. you can send cd's at about 25% of the normal postage rate, called a media rate. as long as you don't include a letter or card or anything else, just a cd and case etc, or a book, or other types of media, you can get cheap postage. i wish i'd known this when i spent nearly $10 on packaging and postage to send cds in the last burn it.

Updating
I spent most of today updating my BookCrossing bookshelf to reflect the multitude of bookrings/rays I've joined. I must be insane to be on so many lists!
I also updated my To Be Read list over at BiblioBlog. I've come to the conclusion that if I quit my job and did nothing but read twenty hours a day, I still could never read all the books that I wanted to.
It was good going through my list, though. I found some books that I had forgotten about and plan on moving up my list of what to read next. I've still got to update my DVD list, but at least my books are a bit more orderly back here (read stacked in boxes), so that ought to make Steven happy. Ah, to have a library with floor to ceiling bookshelves. That would be heaven!

It's Friday, we have friends over, and the drinking has begun.
Last night Steven's Mercedes was vandalized when he left it at the movie theater for a while. Apparently, Mercedes mirrors have some kind of blinking system that makes the mirror go for $1,300 or so. Sucks, huh? Anyway, he was thinking today, after helping a disabled man in a wheelchair with his groceries, that nothing in his life is that bad. Kind of makes you think, huh?

Miscellaneous
Just some random stuff that's on my mind:
- I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Friday and I quite enjoyed it. I agree with several people that the writing is simply not as magical (pardon the pun) as the first couple, but all in all, it was a great book. Lots of good coming of age stuff in there and I just had to see what was going to happen next. Hope we don't have to wait three years for the next one.
- An eBay auction pair of shoes that I have been drooling over for a week ends in forty minutes. If they go up much more, I won't be able to bid on them. Who are the ends that bid on auctions before the last few minutes, driving up the price? Don't they know these are my shoes?
- I watched 44 Minutes on FX this weekend. It's the story of those two guys who held up a bank in North Hollywood in 1997 wearing kevlar body armor armed with AK-47s. They left the bank firing over 2,000 rounds injuring over thirty people, most of them police officers. The movie was great, though I felt such rage that people can legally own weapons like sniper and assult rifles. It's just so fucked up. I really do recommend seeing this movie, though. Really good.
- We rented Die Another Day this weekend and it was pretty entertaining (though a lot of it was highly unrealistic). At least it didn't have Denise Richards in it. I really can't stand her.
- I've had thirty people sign up for Burn It - The Summer Edition already. Since we only had about forty people last time, I think this one's going to be even bigger. Come and sign up!
- The cat is so cute running around with her little fur mouse in her mouth like it's actual prey.
- Man, how can it be Monday almost already? I am so glad Friday is a holiday.

Missing Steven and Other Rambles
I dropped Steven off at the airport this morning so he could go to Boston for a business trip. I was originally going to go, but since he has class all day and then dinners and receptions at night that significant others can't attend, I figured I'd just stay home.
He called this afternoon from his swanky hotel, Nine Zero, and I realized how much I miss him already. Sappy, huh? This is the first trip, though, that he's taken in almost five years without me, so it's a bit strange to be home alone.
Since he isn't here, I'd thought I'd add another family member to make the household the same number and bought another beta at lunch time (I now have four of them). He's really pretty with lots of pinkish-red coloring shot through with shimmery blue. I'll have to try and do a good picture of him later.
The good news, though, is my best friend Jeanna is coming over tomorrow night to spend the whole weekend with me. We already know that we're going to a midnight sale of Harry Potter tomorrow night and then getting pedicures and checking out this jewelry store that's going out of business on Saturday, but that's all we've got planned so far. I think we'll hit Chinese Cafe for dinner Saturday night which will be delicious as always and since Jeanna's never been there before, it'll really be a treat.
I expect lots of raspberry pina coladas will be drunk, lots of movies will be seen, and an incredible time will be held for all.
I guess if you've don't get to go on a trip, the least you can do is have your best friend stay with you!

Wow, look at that address - ritzy is right! I can't WAIT for my trip to Boston in July! I can't figure out how I'm going to fit in everything I want to do and everyone I want to see in just a few days!

A Little Shopping and a Little Dinner
I met Jeanna tonight at Deerbrook Mall after she got off work and we kicked around for a while, did a little shopping, and ate dinner at Jason's Deli (peanut butter and jelly sandwich for me - yum!).
Steven's going out of town next week for a conference in Boston and Jeanna's going to spend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with me and Bella. We're going to get drunk, watch movies, and have great dinners. I can't wait for next weekend!

*G* still recuperating from the weekend? I miss that, used to have girl friends come over for a "slumber party" and we'd watch movies, read books, and Get Drunk! It was wonderful :)
Hope you had FUN! :)

*Yawn*
I was so tired today that, for the first time in a week or so, I took a nap. I made it until about 9:00 and then I crashed.
I've been having very intense dreams (not just nightmares, though there have been some of those too) and I'm almost as tired in the morning as when I went to sleep. I think I'll take an Ambien and see if I can actually sleep through the whole night with no dreams.

I hate nightmares! Hope you get some sleep!! ::hugs::

i read once that overtiredness even after sleeping is a direct result of too much time spent in the REM sleep pattern. i failed to read how one might correct this and get a good night's rest. hope you finally got what you needed in that department.

Monday Monday
Ah, where do the weekends go?
I had dreams all night last night where it was finals day and I hadn't been to class all semester so I wasn't going to graduate from college. When I woke up this morning I was even more tired than when I went to sleep.
Despite that, I had a pretty good day. I had a wonderful chat with Sheila, who despite everything going on in her life, took the time to remind me how special I am. She completely rocks.
I also got a phone call from the boyfriend inviting me to lunch out of the blue - another nice pick-me up. Then it was off to Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual sale where I scored a ton of stuff for like $100.
I had bought The Animatrix DVD Gift Set to give Steven from Bella for Father's Day since he takes such good care of her, but I couldn't wait and gave it to him tonight.
I am now off to eat leftover homemade lasagna (Yum!) and watch some of The Animatrix with my baby. Night, all!

Lazy
I spent most of the day just fucking off playing games, like I usually do on a Sunday. Nothing of note to post, really, just wanted to say hi.

Benefits and Lasagna
Steven and I spent most of the day at a charity benefit for one of his co-worker's husband. They found out last year that both she and him had Hepetitis C and just as they were getting done with the treatment for it, it was discovered that he had pancreatic cancer. The benefit was a lot of fun with ponies and horses for the kids to ride (see them over at the Neurotic Fishbowl Moblog) and they had a band, Victim, that played some real kick-ass music.
After that we headed off to Wal-Mart since Steven decided he wanted to make Emril's lasagna for dinner tonight. It's currently cooking away over in the kitchen and the whole house smells delicious. I love having a man that can cook!

Have you tried the Emril’s Kicked up garlic bread? Yummy! If you don't have the recipe let me know and I will send it over.

You've been hit by a Random Guest Book Signing! Pass it on! (And no, I don't care for the new interface either.)

me too. not liking the blogshares layout at all...
Posted by spork at June 3, 2003 09:30 PM
Earlier when I saw your post I was confused because I hadn't seen the new one yet. Now I'm no longer confused and I'm not a big fan of the new interface either. I kind of liked that long page where I could see everything I needed to see at one glance.

I don't like it either.

Just Thoughts
I think I've picked up the cold that Steven had last week. My head is starting to feel like it's going to explode and I'm sneezing like crazy.
I went to the doctor today to talk to him about Lexapro and how I feel on it. I told him I definitely feel much better (I no longer feel that there is a black hole just beyond my line of sight that is sucking me towards it. I actually feel good and hopeful, a nice change), but I am still pretty exhausted. He checked my blood pressure and it's normal, so he's sending me for bloodwork tomorrow morning. My mother is convinced I'm anemic, so I guess we'll find out if there's anything wrong with me.
Steven and I are trying to shopping for a flip-top poker table that doubles as a dinette set. There's one we both like by California House, but it's probably too big to fit in the condo and it's like $5,000 on sale. I'd really like to get it, but I'm not sure if it's in the cards. Pardon the pun.
I'm feeling worse, so I think it's time for me and the cat to go take a little nap while we wait for Steven to come home from work. Have a nice night, all.

dude, that's some serious poker playing to get one of those ... reminds me of a speakeasy in 1920s chicago. you can flip it back over just before the cops break down your door.
"this is a raid!"

BlogShares Obsession
I have been completely obsessed with BlogShares lately.
The good news - increasing my fortune by about $7 million this week alone. The bad news - it's still fake money!

...you and me both...
The difference? You know what you are doing. I don't. I have like $12.56 left in my 'cash'.
Once I figure out this thing, and the tricks to it, I am sure I will be even more addicted. I upgraded to premium today, but, still waiting for it to 'activate', we will see...
I'd buy some of your stock, but there is never any to buy when I check. :)
Posted by Mark at May 29, 2003 10:37 PM
me, I suck so I hardly play.
Posted by Martie at May 29, 2003 11:08 PM
I am addicted too, lol, running my 5 blogs, it is a lot of fun.

I don't get Blogshares. I read the manual, and it just doesn't make any sense. The share price should really be a reflection of how popular the blog is, and how many sites link to it. But it's not. It's more a reflection of how many people are buying shares of your blog. Which explains what's happened with my share price.

The Connection Game
One of the guys at the office was checking the RoadRunner status page for Houston and it looks like there are outages all over Houston, Spring, Humble, and The Woodlands. Odds are not looking good for having a connection when I get home, so I thought I'd make a quick, "How you doing?" post before I left.
I went to The Limited today and totally scored on some sale items. I got two stretchy shirts (cotton/spandex blend), a necklace, and a pair of earrings for $30. I totally love one of the shirts since you can dress it up or down with either pants or a skirt. When I wear it, I'll have to take some pictures.
Joelle's Vegas posts have completely inspired me to post my own Vegas stories here very, very soon. I have a great story that is just a classic drunk story.
Okay, getting ready to leave soon and run to the PetSmart to see if they still have this huge, gorgeous calico oranda that was there when I went in at lunch to get a heater for the tank. I will be pissed if he was sold in between now and then since the guy said they couldn't hold them.
Happy pseudo Monday, y'all!

Woo hoo!
I just had to come and go, "Woo hoo!," since I got first place in a poker tournament through some great reads and calls on my part. I also got a second place early this morning, so I'm feeling good.
Steven and I spent a few hours laying on the couch and watching the E! Hollywood True Story on Corey Haim and the Beverly Hills 90210 cast. Quite entertaining and a nice way to just veg out.
My brother and his girlfriend are coming in from a weekend in Mexico and since they're leaving for Europe on Sunday, we're all supposed to go to dinner tonight. Steven's feeling under the weather and is probably going to stay home so he doesn't get anyone sick. Of course, the time and place are still up in the air, so it's anybody's guess what happens tonight. Guess that means it's time for a bit more Civilization: Call To Power.

Conquering the World One City at a Time
Despite wanting to catch up on all kinds of things, I've spent the day playing Civilization: Call To Power (conquering the planet one city at a time), some poker tournaments, and trying to increase my BlogShares fortune (feel free to gift me shares of your blog. I love when someone does that!).
We went to the most fabulous restaurant last night with some friends called Maggiano's. Steven and I had been there before but my food curse was acting up and they were out of lasagna, my absolute favorite thing to eat. Before we got there I made Steven promise to sacrifice a waiter if they were out and I guess the threat proved good enough since they had some.
The portions there are huge and I got the most delicious lasagna that was almost the size of an entire plate. Steven had chicken milanese which he is actually cooking right now in the kitchen. I love my chef-like boyfriend.
Anyway, it's been a lovely (if lazy) day and I hope everyone's enjoying their holiday!
