Firefly: Gold Deal Box of the Day
I didn't start watching Firefly until it was cancelled, but I rented the show, became a huge fan, and promptly bought them from Amazon .
While a lot of the Amazon Gold Box Deals are kind of lame, today's deal is the complete series of Firefly on sale for only $19.99!
I know these deals sale out, so if you were planning on ever adding this to your movie collection, now's the time!

Two Winners in The Box
I forgot to mention, but this week, I got two great Amazon.com Gold Box Offers that I could refuse.
The first was for The Hunt for Red October (Special Edition) on DVD. It's been on my mind ever since Steven and I watch a submarine program on The Science Channel earlier this week, so I snapped it up and added Field of Dreams so I could qualify for free shipping. Can't wait for them to come in.
The second item was even better and one I can't believe they even put on sale - The Animatrix Gift Set (includes the CD soundtrack). We've watched some of these on the web and they are just incredible. It's going to make a perfect surprise gift for Steven since I told them they weren't coming out on DVD at all. If you're a fan of animation or The Matrix, I highly recommend them. I paired it with This Pen for Hire: A Jaine Austen Mystery by Laura Levine since it comes out in paperback at about the same time.
Some great stuff coming my way soon from Amazon!

Winos Wanted
Kind of funny, but three of the items in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers were wine-related. Shame I don't drink the stuff!
.: Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 3-1/2-Quart Windsor Saucepan with Lid: I'm pretty sure I've checked with Steven on saucepans before and he never expressed any interest in getting one. Good price, though.

.: Compaq 18.2GB Hot-Plug Universal Hard Drive Ultra SCSI 3 Internal 10,000 RPM: I'm not even sure I know what this is since there was no description for the product. Pass.
.: Haier BC112G 30-Bottle Wine Cellar with Contoured Smoked Glass Door: I don't drink wine, so this isn't something that I would really need. For some strange reason, though, I've always thought these things are cool (Get it? Cool. It's a refrigerator. I kill me!).
.: Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew with Foilcutter, Silver: again, I don't drink wine, so not something I need. Pass.
.: Cuisinart 3-1/2-Quart Nonstick Stainless Steel Saute Pan with Lid and Helper Handle: another cooking utensil that I don't think Steven needs.
.: Sangean DT-110 Digital Pocket AM/FM Stereo Receiver: I never really listen to the radio, so I can't see the point of owning a pocket radio. Pass.
.: Calphalon Professional Nonstick II 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Lid: I bought Steven a Wolfgang Puck set of utensils about a year and a half ago, so I'm pretty certain he already has one of these.
.: Riedel Vinum Chardonnay/Chablis Wine Glasses, Set of 6: let me repeat again, I don't drink wine. Pass.
.: Emerilware 2-Piece Starter Set: Steven has a set of knives that he loves now, so I don't think he would need these. Pass.
.: Mikasa Grand Prix Dinnerware 20-Piece Sets, Service for 4: I love Mikasa, but that is a truly bizarre pattern. I so don't like it. « Hide it

DVD in The Gold Box
I was checking out my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today when I was presented with a DVD that I feel is essential to any collection - Trading Places.
How can you not love this movie? It was about $15 so I jumped at the chance to add it to my DVD collection.

By the way - that's not a vacuum. It's a carpet steamer, and it ROCKS. My mom has one and I love using it - it makes my carpets look like new!

I used to post my Gold Box offers too, until I figured out a couple of things. Not only do they not offer items you might actually like (which they could do, using their Recommendations feature), but they offer almost exactly the same things to everyone. The Gold Box has a lot of potential as a moneymaker, but until they offer me things I might actually want to buy, I'm not going to purchase anything!

Two in a Row
What can I say? I'm weak, so I made an order for the second day in a row from my Amazon.com Gold Box.
I was offered Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Second Season on DVD for about $10.00 off. This is another one of those shows that I knew I would love, but never got around to watching. I guess I'll get to finally see it now. :-)

So are you going to watch season 2 before season 1? I guess I did; I started watching reruns of season 2 right before season 3 started, and only saw season 1 when it came out on syndication years later. :giggle: So if you have questions, you know where to come... I'm kinda a buffy authority ;) tee hee!
Posted by kristine at January 17, 2003 03:33 AM
Yay! See, this is what comes of reading via RSS feeds. ;) I didn't come through your front door to know you'd decided this already.
Posted by Lisa, Gal of Unix at January 17, 2003 06:49 AM
you have to get all caught up now, Kymberlie!!! you need to watch Season 1 before Season 2.. and then buy Season 3... because it's out, too.
let's just say that the gals at the Bite Me blog (me and miss Kadyellebee up there included) are those with Buffy authority. LOL :D
and you can stop by my other blog for scoop as well. i've been a fan since day one! :)
Posted by Kathy at January 17, 2003 12:10 PM
I bought this from my gold box the day before you! :) I've got third season already, but I want to watch them all from the beginning, so I still need first season. If I don't get it for my birthday, then I'll buy it after that.

Should I or Shouldn't I?
In my Amazon Gold Box I just got offered Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Second Season on DVD for $10 off.
I have never seen Buffy, but everything I've heard about it indicates that I would love it. Now I have an hour to decide: should I or shouldn't I buy it? Hmmm.

I would vote YES on that one (though I see you went for it already). I just got "into" Buffy last season and have been trying to catch up via reruns - it isn't easy. The DVDs will help you a lot. Who knows, you may even want to watch the new shows too!

Right Out of The Box
I ordered the first item out of my Amazon.com Gold Box today.
I was offered Twin Peaks - The First Season (Special Edition) DVDs for $5.00 off. While I never got to watch the show, knowing what the types of things that I like, I have always thought that Twin Peaks would be right up my alley. A few gift certificates later and the first season is mine for a mere $5.00 and change. Now, does anyone have the pilot they can loan me?

Ooooohhhhh...I LOVE Twin Peaks! I think you will enjoy it, too!
One of the things that Mike brought into the marriage is a boxed VHS set of the entire series. We also have the pilot (also on VHS), which we'd be happy to lend to you.
Let me know if you want me to send it to you...I still have your address from the postcard exchange, and can get it out to you right away.

The Gold Box of The Day
I hadn't shared my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers lately, so here's what was in The Box today.
.: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick Collector's Edition 10-Inch International Griddle/Crepe Pan: Steven already makes excellent crepes, so no need to get a pan just for that purpose.

.: Panasonic PV-D4752 DVD/VCR Combo: we don't need one of these since we already have a DVD player and never watch VHS tapes anymore.
.: Spiegelau Authentis White Wine Glasses, Set of 6: neither of us drink wine, so I'm going to pass on this.
.: Philips AE215517 AM/FM/TV Weatherband Portable Radio: I don't think we have any need for this, so pass.
.: Oxford Garden Designs Adirondack Chair: living in a condo, we don't have a yard, so we don't need one of these.
.: 24" Ladies 18 Speed Grand Ledge Mountain Bike: I like to joke that the most outdoorsy I get is the top down on my Miata. I so am not going to use a mountain bike.
.: AudioSource SW Fifteen 200-Watt Powered Subwoofer: we already have some nice Klipsh speakers in the living room. Pass.
.: KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, White: we already have a blender and it works just fine.
.: Pacific Coast 3 Diamond Blakely Down Comforter, King: I would love to have one of these, but Steven said no. They are a bit expensive.

.: Canon ZR40 MiniDV Digital Camcorder with 2.5" LCD, & Digital Still Mode: I still want a camcorder. Anyone care to purcahse one for me? ;-)
.: GoVideo DDV3110 Dual Deck 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR: we never use VCRs anymore and even if we did, we have like three of them in the house already.
.: Vacu Vin Guy Buffet Rapid Ice Wine Chiller, Sommeliers: we don't drink wine, so we don't really need a wine chiller. It could come in handy, though, for chilling shots if we didn't have a cold bottle around.
.: Juiceman JMS6 Blender with Variable Infinite Speeds: Steven already has a blender that works pretty well, so I'm going to pass on this.

Pasta, Anyone?
The first product in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today was a Villaware Imperia Pasta Machine. Steven and I have watched a lot of Iron Chef together and he's always impressed when the chefs make their own pasta, so as soon as I saw this, I called him up at his poker game and asked him how interested he might be in making his own. When he found out that it was super cheap thanks to The Gold Box, he said it would make a great gift so I bought it for him and Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans for me (hey, I to get free shipping I had to make another purchase. It was completely self-less!). Cool little gadget, huh?

.: KitchenAid KSM110PS Custom 300-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, Metallic Chrome: this looked bad ass and Steven said it was a great deal, but we just don't have space in the kitchen for any more appliances (damn small condo). Maybe when we get a house.
.: WMF Profi Plus Stainless Steel Can Opener: nice can opener, but we already have one like this.

.: Harley-Davidson Ken #2: can you say creepy? There's something very weird about Ken with facial hair, a tattoo, and in leather chaps.
.: Philips MC7037 Hi-Fi Micro System with 3-CD Changer: another item I'm just not in the mood for. « Hide it

The Gold Box Duo
For some reason I only got two offers in my Amazon.com Gold Box today. Strange.
.: Musso 4080 Lussino Dessert Maker: since this ice cream maker was only $50 instead of $600, I think I'll stick with it.
.: All-Clad Stainless 7-1/2 Inch Fry Pan: we don't need one of these, so I'll pass.
