Blonder and Blonder

I forgot to mention, but I got my hair cut yesterday (about four inches) and got more blonde highlights, very light blonde ones for the spring/summer season. It feels so nice to be rid of the nasty split ends that I had and I love the the little light blonde streaks around my face.

As with most Fridays, I am glad that it is the end of the work week. I look forward to two days with nothing to do but screw around. No late nights at the office, no wondering if a deadline is going to be met, nothing at all to do. My biggest worry this weekend will be trying to locate some rasperry puree so that my piña coladas take like raspberries. It seems like the local Randall's quit carrying it (bastards!). Anyone know where to buy any?

Friday Five!

And now, time for today's Friday Five!

1. What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day? I have a boring morning routine on the weekdays. I get up between 8:00 and 8:30, I use the bathroom, brush my teeth, put on make-up, get dressed, take my morning pills, and leave for work. On the weekend, I really have more of a "late afternoon" routine (since I don't get up until after 1:00 or 2:00). That involves getting up, going to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, grabbing a Coke, and getting online. Much more fun.

2. What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed? Besides showering and brushing my teeth, I like to read in bed while my hair dries. It helps me get to relax and get to sleep.

3. What daily routine have you recently added to your day? Ever since seeing the gastroenterologist (or the scope doctor, as I like to call him) taking Prevacid every morning. That's about it.

4. What routine do you wish you get rid of? Going to work! ;-)

5. What's the one thing that makes you feel like something is missing if you don't do it some point within your day? If I don't get online and check my mail, I feel truly strange. Have to be on the computer at some point in time.

Thursday Threesome

Since I was down on Thursday, here's Deb's Thursday Threesome a bit late.

Onesome. Love. Ever felt that "unconditional love?" Tell us about it. Maybe with my evil ex-fiance whom I refer to as Satan, but I've forgotten why I would have ever felt that way about him. He was a complete ass when we broke up. Fucker.

Twosome. Labors. What was your first paying job (not counting baby-sitting)? If you don't count typing documents for my uncle, my first real job was working at a grocery store call Food Basket when I was a senior in high school. We called it Food Bucket, or The Bucket for short, and it was the worst place to work. The management sucked, the pay sucked, and we had turtles and snakes in the scary hell-like back of the store. Yuck.

Threesome. Lost. Have a knack for losing things? Is there something you lose "all the time?" I lose stuff all the time. I'm forever going, "Honey, have you seen my glasses, my book, my whatever?" I'm really bad about taking my contacts out before finding my glasses. I'm then completely blind and have no shot in hell of locating them if there aren't on the sink or my nightstand.

This-or-That Tuesday

Time for Ashley's This-or-That Tuesday (even though it's Friday. Got to make up for lost blogging time!):

  • For gals: Panties -- Thongs, bikinis, or briefs?
  • Bikinis, for the most part, though thongs some times. I used to wear thongs constantly, but I've gotten away from that over the last couple of years.

  • For guys: Briefs, boxers, or boxer briefs?
  • Steven wears briefs most of the times, but he wears boxer briefs too. I think boxer briefs are the best underwear that a guy can wear.

  • Movable Type, Blogger, or Greymatter?
  • Movable Type all the way, baby! Movable Type totally rocks!

  • Rabbits or hamsters?
  • Hamsters! I had a russian dwarf hamster named Quicksilver when I was in college and he was the cutest thing. Every time I go into a pet store, I really want another one.

  • Electric or gas home?
  • Electric. I would probably blow a gas home up.

  • Mud between your toes: comforting or disgusting?
  • Disgusting, but I do love wet sand between my toes.

  • Question mark or exclamation point?
  • Exclamation point!

  • Is it hot where you live? Yes or no?
  • Usually, since I live in Texas. Today, though, no.

  • Is your monitor currently dusty? Yes or no?
  • No. I try to keep my monitor very clean.

  • Would you rather have an abundance of love, sex, or money in your life?
  • Love.

It's a Group Thing: Part V

My blog was down Wednesday, so I'll post this week's "It's a Group Thing" now.

Davezilla and friends were coming up with their own terms and I really liked their "An Eh of Canadians." Since I'm not Canadian, but I am Scots/Irish, today's group term is:

A Fifth of Scots

We Have a Winner!

I am a sucker for online contests and enter just about all of them that I find. I answered some trivia questions last month at Gourmet Guess and I was one of this month's winners! I won a Capresso WaffleDUO and a Component Design Northwest Multitask Digital Timer & Clock. I love waffles, so what can be better than heart-shaped waffles on a kick-ass waffle maker that I won? :-)

It's a Group Thing - Davezilla Style

Davezilla and a bunch of his friends devised new group names for several existing terms. Of them all, my personal favorites are:

  • A spasm of ferrets
  • A melanoma of moles
  • An Easter of seals
  • A poo-fling of apes
  • A pinch of asses
  • A toupée of Tribbles
  • A heartburn of dragons

Of course, tomorrow is Wednesday, so come back for a new "It's a Group Thing!"

Scary Story

I finished reading Everything's Eventual by Stephen King last night. I had read or heard all the stories before, save Luckey Quarter, but I had forgotten how frightening the story 1408 is. After I finished it and the rest of the book, I turned off the light and tried to go to sleep, but had completely succedeed in freaking myself out with that story (King himself said the story frightened him, so I'm not as much of a wuss as I sound). I'm lying in bed trying not to think about the scary story when Steven (who has been asleep the whole time) rolls over and puts his arms around me. I then felt so safe that I went right to sleep. Ah. Happiness is being held by the man you love when you're your book has scared you and you can't go to sleep.

My Stress Reliever

A while back Steven and I were watching one of those boring political shows that he fancies. Some old guy was getting irate and told the other guest, very forcefully, "If he would just take the time and examine..." To which, out of no where, I yelled back, "Examine my ass, motherfucker!" I have decided that nothing relieves stress more than just shouting, "Examine my ass, motherfucker!" when someone is annoying you or just because you feel like it. I must be so stressed lately because I have not been saying this enough. So, on that note:

Examine my ass, motherfucker!

Ah. I feel better already.

(Btw, sorry, Mom, about all the cussing.)

Helping Others Get Their Lives Back

Interesting news article about an ex-CIA disguise expert that makes prosthetics for people who have become disfigured. What a wonderful thing to do for people. As much as people say looks don't matter, when someone becomes horribly disfigured, it's a massively traumatic experience and they often have problems fitting back into society. This man has helped so many people get their lives back. Truly wonderful.

Playing Catch-Up

This past weekend, was pretty busy, so, like usual on the weekend, I didn't get any blogging in. Let's see if I can't get everyone up to spend.

Saturday I slept all day (as I prone to do) and after getting up, Steven and I drove to The Big Fish Store to see if they had any fish that had to come live with us. They had some nice looking blue orandas, but since they were $20 and the cute calico orandas at PetSmart were only $10, we decided to not get any fish from them now. They're getting more in a few weeks, so we'll go check them out again then. We went by the PetSmart by my office and got the newest member of our fish family - a cute calico oranda. He's got a beautiful body shape and nice long fins. We didn't do much else except go to The Outback Steakhouse for dinner. (Wallhalla Pasta and lobster. Yummy!)

Sunday my mom called and woke me up around 1:30 to see if we wanted to go have lunch with her, my dad, my brother, and two of my aunts, so Steven and I got ready and met them at a little diner for lunch. The food was okay, but having lunch with everyone was nice. After that we came home, I messed around on the computer, and then we went to Steven's parents' house for dinner with his parents and some old family friends. We had a nice time and then came home, watched Enterprise and went to bed.

I hope everyone had a nice Easter (if you celebrate it) or a nice weekend if you don't. It's Monday, so back to the grindstone.

Don't Panic!

The girls (Jeanna and Trish) and I went to the movie Friday night. For some strange reason, the AMC website wasn't showing correct movies and times, so we were able to see our first movie choice after all - Panic Room. Let me tell you, that movie rocked! It was incredibly suspensful, well-acted, well-directed, and just plain excellent. As I was watching the movie, I kept thinking, "Damn! That looks just like Fight Club." Found out later it was directed by the same guy, so I'm not surprised it was as good as it turned out to be. Looking for something to watch? Go see this film. Well worth it.

Monday Mission 2.13

Here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.13:

1. When was the last time you wanted someone to take you seriously but they just humored you?
My brother does this all the time and it completely pisses me off. He's forever borrowing money or having me pay for something on my credit card and then saying he's going to pay me back. I'll tell him, "I want to be paid back by X date," and he just blows it off. Drives me crazy!

2. If you were going to get a vanity license plate for your car, what would it say? (Or if you already have one, what does it say?)
GEEKGRL. Pretty unoriginal, but I like it.

3. What was written in the sweetest love note you were ever given? What's the story there?
When I was in third grade I came back from lunch to find a little poem (very carefully written in cursive) that said, "Roses are red. Violets are blue. You are my girlfriend and I love you!" It was from my "Secret Admirer," and though I never really found out who it was from, I used to imagine it was from the boy that I had a crush on, so that made it all the more sweet.

4. What is your ethnic background?
I am German on my mother's side and Scots/Irish on my father's.

5. What, if any, is your personal exercise routine?
Monday I do arms (biceps, triceps, shoulder, and occasionally back) and aerobics (twenty minutes on the StairMaster) before dance class. Tuesday is legs (lunges, toe touches with the weight bar, and thigh machine) with aerobics (twenty minutes on the StairMaster). Wednesday is a repeat of Monday. Thursday is Steven's poker night, so I do aerobics (twenty minutes on the StairMaster) when I don't have to get my nails done or have plans to meet my girlfriends. Some Saturdays and Sundays we do aerobics (twenty minutes on the StairMaster), but not very often. We plan on buying a StairMaster either this summer or fall, so at that point aerobics will be increased in my workout by a fair amount.

6. Have you ever had any "one night stands?" How did that come about and how did you feel the next day?
Nope. Never had one.

7. What is your fondest Easter memory?
One year we had an Easter egg hunt for all of the kids (I was probably about eleven at the time). There was a gold egg with maybe about $10 in it and my grandmother helped my best friend and I find it.

BONUS: Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world and the seven seas. Everybody's looking for something.

Eight From The Eighties

Continuing the "better late than never" theme, here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties.

1) Do you like Mondays? Tell me why. Hell no. I hate Mondays. The weekends are never long enough and now that our two-step lessons have been moved to Monday night I feel even more tired. Mondays are evil.

2) Are you footloose? I would say so. We take dance lessons and two-step and polka quite regularly. Plus, I just love to shake my booty. I dance in my chair listening to music, in the car, wherever. Love dancing!

3) Are you a smooth criminal? Probably not. The worse thing I ever did was loan my jacket to some kids when I was in high school so they could shoplift some candy and stuff. It had inside pockets, so it was good for that kind of thing.

4) When you call me, you can call me... People ask me this all the time and I go by either Kymberlie or Kym, I'm not super particular. I do prefer to be called Kymberlie, though, and since only about two of my friends call me by my full name, I always get a little tingle of happiness to be addressed this way. Maybe if everyone called me Kymberlie all the time it wouldn't seem as special.

5) Do you talk to strangers? Yep. I like to chat and will talk to strangers when standing in line or things like that. I wouldn't approach someone, though, and just strike up a conversation about nothing in particular.

6) Have you ever had a one night love affair? Nope. Never.

7) What sad songs make you cry? I am a total sap and cry over tons of songs. There are too many to list though "Bells For Her," "Winter," "Cooling," and "Cloud on My Tounge" by Tori Amos make me cry almost every time.

8) Don't say a prayer for me now, save it til'... all the work that we're supposed to launch this week actually launches. No more 2:00 AM work days!

Saturday Scruples

Better late than never, right? So here's Marsha's Saturday Scruples.

1. you reserve seats at a local theatre by phone (without paying). a few hours before curtain, you decide not to go. do you bother to cancel? Sure. It only takes a second to call. Seems rude not to.

2. by mistake, a large department store has failed to bill your account for a vcr. do you notify the store? Probably not. I am totally evil about this kind of thing and got a Tivo for free under similar circumstances. I may go to hell for it, but at least I can watch TV my way!

3. a close friend asks you to hide an illegal drug. do you agree? Maybe pot, but otherwise no. If they want to use it, they can hide it themselves.
